New Joomla 2.5 released with many features, that we have been waiting so long, that we’d almost given up. Well. There is one more reason to rejoice and that is, there will be no new version that will be seen till July 2013. So, let’s take off the gift paper from the Joomla 2.5 and see what it has in store for us.
Features of the new Joomla 2.5
Joomla is great and we’ve made use of the Joomla 1.6 and the 1.7 version to the fullest, but as the new Joomla 2.5 is here let’s see what are the new features that it has that were lacking the previous versions.
Multiprocessing concept introduced
This was not seen in the earlier versions but you will now be able to make use of this option with the help of it as it has been integrated with the Joomla 2.5. You will be able to copy and shift the operations and all this will be able to be conducted as a batch process.
Update each time you click the mouse
This is what impressed me the most as each time to click the mouse button the system will look for new updates and it will initiate the same.
More templates in this version
The new version of Joomla has more templates than the previous one, in the sense that there are 2 administrator templates and 3 website templates that are present.
Design of the templates
There has been a change in the design of the templates as well and there are many more options that are present. You can have different templates for different pages, a feature that was absent in the past versions of Joomla.
Slick User Interface
I wouldn’t say that there was anything missing in the user interface of the previous versions of Joomla, but once you use the new version you will realize that there were things that were lacking. Here are some of the new features that you will come across in the new interface.
Save: This option will save whatever you are working on and you will still be in the editing mode
Save and Close: This will save the stuff that you are working on and you will be out of the editing mode, as well.
Save and New: Saves what you have been working on and you will be into a new document after the present one has been saved.
Multi language support
Another feature that left me pleasantly surprised is the multi language support that has been integrated with Joomla 2.5. This means that you have the freedom to create documents in any of the languages that are present as an option with the site and there is also a language switcher that has been integrated that enables the users to filter the entire web page into the language of their choice.
More choices if you choose to be in the offline mode
There were options for you in case you chose to be in the previous versions, but the new options are just cooler. You can choose to be offline of put up a customized message and also have it set in a manner that unauthorised people do not see it.
