The Nokia N9 is the latest addition to the N series of Nokia. The handset is based on the MeeGo operating system and comes in a variety of colors including black, pink and red. Nokia plans to stop the use of Symbian operating system and gradually switch over to Windows 7 operating system.
The N9 will not be introduced in the markets of Japan, Sweden, Canada, US, Germany and UK and the reason for this has not yet been disclosed by the company. The handset was showcased at the Nokia Connection event that was held in Singapore in June 2011.
Coming to the features and specifications of the handset, the Nokia N9 is powered by a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 S0C processor and to complement this, there is 3D Graphics Power VR SCX350 GPU. The GPU is capable of processing a snap that is clicked using the camera of the handset along with data transmission and audio processing while phone calls are being made. It is equipped with an internal memory of 1 GB RAM and has an internal storage capacity of 512 MB or a mass storage memory that ranges between 16 GB to 64 GB. It does not come with any slot that supports external memory.
Nokia N9 sports a 3.9 inch capacitive touchscreen and it has a resolution of 854 by 480 pixels. The display is a clear black AMOLED type and has the capability to show 16.7 million colors. The screen has an encasing of Corning Gorilla Glass and that makes the screen scratch proof. Also the screen has a coating of the anti-glare polarizer so that the handset can be used even in direct sunlight. An outstanding feature of the handset is that they have inserted a proximity sensor into the handset that disables the touchscreen when the phone is held close to the ear.
The Nokia N9 has the GPS technology and comes pre-installed with a set of Nokia Maps. These maps are akin to the maps that can be found on the Ovi Store of the Symbian operating system and these maps are basically of the continent from which the handset has been purchased. As far as the multimedia features are concerned, the Nokia N9 has an 8.7 MP camera that has an LED Flash as well as the autofocus feature. It has a Carl Zeiss lens that provides great clarity and precision for the picture that is not very common in pictures that are taken by a mobile camera. It also has a front facing camera for the purpose of video calling.
The Nokia N9 comes with a Li-Ion battery that can support up to 7 hours and 11 minutes of talk time and up to 19 days of standby time.
The Nokia N9 has been priced at EUR 480 for the 16 GB version and EUR 560 for the 64GB version.
